Goliath’s AKA John – From Euthanasia List to Rescue

On September 26th, 2022, just two days before his scheduled euthanasia, Goliath was saved and placed in a new home. Unfortunately, shortly after his adoption, Goliath bit his new owner on the hand, prompting concern. Despite this, the owner, David, showed a willingness to work with the rescue and secured help from Dog’s Train Home to fund Goliath’s first month of training with Isaac from PawsitiveDawg.com.

Post-neutering, Goliath was assessed on October 6th, and training began the next day. Early progress included signs of engagement and some social play with Isaac’s helper dog, Jetta. However, behavioral red flags continued, including aggression over toys and concern from Isaac regarding Goliath’s placement in a home with grandchildren and another senior dog. Isaac concluded that, even with training, Goliath might bite again, and recommended he be rehomed to a safer environment. On October 14th, the owner agreed to surrender Goliath back to the rescue. It was with a heavy heart that we could not help Goliath and this owner, but we back our trainer %100.

By October 26th, Goliath had been renamed Romeo and placed with a new trainer. His original owner stayed in contact and provided updates. By July 28th, 2023, after a period of ups and downs, Romeo (formerly Goliath) bit his owner twice, with the second incident serious enough that the owner surrendered him permanently. We can only hope the rescue found the dog an appropriate home or sanction home.
