Laurel’s Story – A Second Chance That Helped Two Dogs

Laurel’s journey isn’t filled with tragedy—but it could have been. A purebred (without papers), Laurel was purchased off Craigslist by someone living in an apartment. Her size and high energy quickly became too much, and he planned to re-list her for sale. Thankfully, a friend intervened and connected him with Nikki at Mad Love Animal Rescue (@MadLoveAnimalRescue). He agreed to sell Laurel to the rescue for $150.

Laurel found a safe place living in Nikki’s home, but there was more at stake. Another dog, Baker, had been pulled from a kill shelter and was stuck in kennel boarding due to his reactivity. By placing Laurel into training through our charity, Baker was able to move into Nikki’s home to decompress—a vital step in his recovery. Your donations for Laurel helped two dogs at once.

In January 2023, Laurel began her month-long training with Isaac from PawsitiveDawg.com. At just six months old, she was full of puppy energy but eager to learn. She picked up basic commands quickly and even aced a socialization session at Walmart to get used to busy public spaces.

By February 7th, Laurel met her potential forever family—and their resident dog. It was a nervous moment, but the introduction went beautifully. Laurel went straight from training into her forever home.

In March, we received the best kind of update:
“No words. Just love.”

Thank you to everyone who donated to Laurel’s journey. Because of your support, two dogs got a fresh start. Please keep those donations coming—Baker and others like him still need our help.
