Goliath
1 or 2 year old Rottweiler - From Healing Hounds Rescue
Goliath's trainer is Issac at PawsitiveDawg.com
Sep 26th 2022:
Goliath was John and is now re named Goliath. He was taken off the stress with a catch pole and put straight into isolation. He was in the shelter for one month and was due to be killed, September 26th 2022.
Healing Hounds Dog Rescue managed to find him a home 2 days before his kill date. However, after Goliath was placed in his new home he bit his new owner. The new owner wanted to serenader him but was willing to work with us to get him assets for training. David, the new owner has the heart and home to save a dog who was due to die today, but not the finances. Thanks to you, Dog’s Train Home will cover the first month’s training. Because of the nature of this dog he will likely need a second month. Healing Hounds and the owner will raise the money second month. |
Oct 1st 2022:
Goliath is at a vet and board recovering from a neutering operation.
It is important for Goliath to recover for 10-14 days because a dog with their "bits" or leftover testosterone can create issues in a pack of dogs. Because of his aggression it is also important that he has a training assessment before coming into the pack, and this is scheduled for Oct 6th with Isaac. If all goes well his training will start with PawSitiveDawgTraining.com. |

The day after Goliath arrived at his new board and train home he was displaying unwanted aggression over a chew toy.

Isaac reports that Goliath is barking at him to get his attention and not as a warning. He is also calmer when Isaac enters his crate room to feed him.
He seams happy to play with Jetta one of Isaac's personal dogs who works with him to help show the dogs how to play correctly, There is still a long way to go but and I'm please to tell you that we have raised enough money for 7 weeks training. Frustratingly, the rescue and owner did not come through with the offer to pay for the second months money. Our trainer will do his best with the time he has. 12 weeks is the needed amount so we are still fundraising for this big guy. Please donate. |

This week Isaac was feeling uncomfortable with the behavior he was seeing. With the short time he has with him, and no guarantee for donation to extend the training, he is not happy about the home he was adopted into. Goliath should be in a home with no pets or children and the owner needs to understand Goliath’s personality and be happy to manage that forever.
The current owner has grandchildren, a senior Rottweiler with heath issues, and he himself is sick. The new owner is not confutable without the guarantee of a family dog after training and in Isaac's professional opinion, even with training the dog will bite again.
After two days of pure panic about Goliath’s future we have a new plan for him. The owner has agreed to serenader Goliath back to the Healing Hounds Rescue.

It is with a heavy heart to update Goliath's notes today. Isaac is not comfortable with training Goliath any more and we stand behind his decision 100%.
Although, we can not help Goliath, this dog has taught us a lot about putting provision for dogs in place and requirements for the rescues. Goliaths time with us was short, yet he has helped us with our process for other dogs -- so, thank you Goliath.

Goliath has been renamed Romeo by the rescue.
The rescue found funding for an other trainer! The dog in with the original owner and he is happy to keep us updated on her progression. We wish Romeo all the best. |

Over the past months we have kept in touch with Romeo AKA Goliath's owner. I was impressed and touch at how committed he was to his new dog. There were ups and downs and during the months that followed, and Romeo sadly attacked his owner twice. On the second occasion the owner felt scared enough to surrendered him back to Healing Hounds Rescue. We hope that the rescue can sanction or find a suitable home for Romeo, as he is a high drive dog, and give him a new chance at life.
